Horsemapp is a platform dedicated to the global equestrian community, catering to horse owners, trainers and enthusiasts. The company aimed to create a digital ecosystem where users could manage their horses' data, share updates, and connect with like-minded individuals. Beyond social interaction, Horsemapp envisioned an integrated marketplace where users could buy and sell horses, access professional services, and exchange information. The company sought to digitise and simplify the equestrian experience by centralising horse-related data, communication and transactions in a single mobile application.
About the project
Horsemapp is a cross-platform mobile application that provides a streamlined experience for horse owners and enthusiasts to manage their horses' profiles, share multimedia content, and engage in discussions. An integrated marketplace allows users to list horses for sale, whilst a chat system enables direct communication between buyers and sellers. The app also includes features such as bookmarking, community feeds, and organisational profiles for equestrian service providers.
Objectives & Challenges
The primary objective was to create a comprehensive social network and marketplace for horse lovers. The app needed to provide users with a way to store detailed horse information, including photos and documents. The project required flawless integration of key features such as a social feed, messaging, and a listing component for horse sales. A key challenge was developing a high-performance cross-platform solution that ensured a smooth user experience across iOS and Android. Thanks to the expertise and stability of our team, we successfully delivered a robust, responsive, and scalable application within an efficient timeframe while maintaining high quality.
Approach & Methodology
FlexMade adopted an Agile approach, specifically following the Scrum methodology, with task estimation in hours. The development team evolved over time, with peak composition including five frontend (React Native) developers, three backend developers (one serving as the tech lead), a product owner, a project manager, and a CTO. The team also included a QA engineer and a designer. The project was structured to accommodate frequent iterations and refinements, ensuring the inclusion of core functionalities whilst maintaining flexibility for future feature expansions. Regular sprint reviews and user feedback loops guided development to ensure that the application met the client’s evolving requirements.
Login/Registration Functionality
Allows private users and businesses to sign up or log in using email, password, social accounts (Google, Facebook), or Apple ID. Businesses can register under specific categories such as veterinary surgeons, trainers, and transport services. The feature includes account verification, password protection, and a recovery system for lost credentials. Users can link multiple accounts for flexible authentication, ensuring a seamless onboarding experience.
Marketplace Component
A platform for users to browse and explore horses listed for sale. Each listing includes details such as breed, age, medical history, photos, and ownership documents. Users can save horses to their favourites, contact owners directly through the app, and filter listings based on specific criteria. This section streamlines the process of buying and selling horses within the community, creating an easy-to-use marketplace for equestrian enthusiasts.
Details Section
A centralised hub for managing detailed user and horse profiles. Users can add and edit detailed information, including health records, vaccination history, pedigree, and ownership details. The system supports photo and document uploads, ensuring that all necessary horse-related data is easily accessible. The ability to track and update horse information over time makes this segment a valuable tool for horse owners and professionals alike.
Community Spotlight
The social networking feature, the community feature, enables users to engage with others by sharing equestrian-related content. Users can post photos and videos, like and save posts, follow other equestrians, and interact through comments. This feature fosters an active and engaged community, allowing horse enthusiasts to showcase their experiences, seek advice, and connect with like-minded individuals.
Messaging System
The integrated messaging system facilitates real-time communication between users. It allows them to chat privately, share photos and videos of horses, exchange documents, and discuss potential sales or partnerships. With an intuitive interface and multimedia-sharing capabilities, the messaging system enhances collaboration and interaction within the equestrian network.
